Thomas O. Holland, Jr.Managing Partner
Tom Holland was one of the founders of Allegiance Capital, one of the predecessor funds to Patriot Capital II. Mr. Holland has 20 years of experience in venture capital, commercial and investment banking. Prior to co-founding Allegiance Capital, he spent 13 years in positions of increasing responsibility with Bank of America Corporation (and its predecessor banks) providing senior and subordinated debt to middle-market companies. During 1998 and 1999, Mr. Holland managed the mid-Atlantic activities of Bank of America SBIC Corporation, where he focused on mezzanine financing. Tom is currently active on the boards for various civic organizations and private companies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Florida.
Charles P. McCuskerManaging Partner
Charles McCusker is the Managing Partner of the Patriot Capital Group and is one of the founders of Patriot Capital I, Patriot Capital II, Patriot Capital III and Patriot Capital IV. Prior to Patriot Capital, Mr. McCusker was a general partner of the ServiceMaster Venture Fund, a highly successful portfolio of focused private equity investments in consumer services, for-profit education, application software and business e-commerce industries. Mr. McCusker also founded and held several operating executive positions, including President and Chief Operating Officer, of a joint venture between The ServiceMaster Company (SVM) and Kleiner Perkins. Mr. McCusker currently serves on the Board of Directors of Advantage Engineers, ExpertJMS and Red River Service Corp and has served on the boards of several prior Patriot Capital Group portfolio companies. Mr. McCusker has also served as the Chair of the Small Business Investor Alliance, the leading industry association for lower and middle market private equity firms and currently serves on the Board of the University of Chicago’s Private Equity Council for the Booth School of Business. Mr. McCusker is a graduate of Virginia Tech (BS Engineering) and the University of Chicago (MBA).
Chris M. RoystonManaging Partner
Chris M. Royston is a Managing Partner and one of the founders of Patriot Capital I, Patriot Capital II and Patriot Capital III. Mr. Royston has over 30 years of experience in middle market investing and lending. Prior to Patriot Capital, Mr. Royston was a Managing Director of Bengur Bryan & Co., Inc., a middle market investment banking firm providing private placement of debt and equity, merger and acquisition advice and other financial advisory services. Prior to Bengur Bryan, Mr. Royston co-managed the investment banking group of Maryland National Bank overseeing all capital raising efforts. Prior to Maryland National Bank, Mr. Royston was a Vice President of Salomon Brothers Inc. in the private placement department. Mr. Royston currently serves as a board representative for numerous companies in the funds’ portfolios. Mr. Royston is a graduate of The College of William and Mary (BA-Economics) and Columbia University (MBA-Finance).
Charles A. BryanSenior Principal & Adviser
Charles Bryan is a Senior Principal and Adviser and one of the founders of Patriot Capital I, Patriot Capital II and Patriot Capital III. He is a co-founder and President of the middle market investment banking firm of Bengur Bryan & Co., Inc. Prior to forming Bengur Bryan, he was an industry group head and a vice president in the investment banking division of Alex. Brown & Sons. Mr. Bryan started his career in the Private Business Advisory Services Group of KPMG Peat Marwick. He also co-founded several food service companies and currently serves on the Board of PJPA, LLC, a Papa John’s Pizza franchisee and American National Rubber and is a board observer for several of Patriot Capital’s investments. Mr. Bryan is a Certified Public Accountant and a graduate of the University of North Carolina (BS) and Harvard Business School.
J. Daniel YardleyManaging Director
Dan Yardley is a Managing Director of Patriot Capital and responsible for all aspects of new deal generation, underwriting, due diligence, and portfolio management. Dan joined Patriot Capital in 2008 through the merger of the management teams of Patriot Capital and Allegiance Capital. Prior to Patriot Capital, Dan joined Allegiance Capital, as an Associate, in 2001. Prior to joining Allegiance, Dan was an Analyst in the Strategic Investment group of Allegis Group. Dan currently has board observation for many Patriot Capital investments. Dan is a graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University and Johns Hopkins University (MBA).
Thomas D. KurtzManaging Director – Midwest
Tom Kurtz joined Patriot Capital as Managing Director – Midwest in October 2008. He is responsible for new deal generation, due diligence, and portfolio management. Mr. Kurtz has over 25 years of experience in structuring leveraged capital for middle-market corporations through senior and mezzanine debt, private equity and investment banking, involving leverage buyout, recap and growth situations. Previously, Mr. Kurtz held origination, underwriting and relationship positions with financing institutions such as GE Capital, Citicorp, Bank of America, Chase/JP Morgan and Textron Financial, originating and structuring over $650 million in total capital invested. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Western Michigan University.
Patrick F. HamnerManaging Director - Southwest
Patrick Hamner joined Patriot Capital as Managing Director – Southwest in November 2012. Mr. Hamner served for 24 years with Capital Southwest Corporation, [NASDAQ: CSWC], a Dallas, TX-based SBIC, rising to Senior Vice President with responsibility for developing and monitoring venture capital and private equity investments, facilitating add-on acquisitions and serving on fourteen boards. He was the founding Chairman of Heelys, Inc. [NASDAQ: HLYS] from 2000-2007, and joined the management team from 2006-2008 serving last as a Senior Vice President. Mr. Hamner was appointed an adjunct lecturer at the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business in 2012 after having co-founded a $69 mm non-leveraged SBIC in Dallas from 2009-2011. Mr. Hamner served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of NASBIC in 2001-2002. Mr. Hamner is Treasurer of the Board of Marketplace Ministries Foundation, an Elder at Park Cities Presbyterian Church and a former Scoutmaster. Mr. Hamner is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (MBA and Dean’s Award) and SMU (BSME cum laude) and is married with three children.
David N. ChristopherManaging Director - Southeast
David Christopher joined Patriot Capital in 2017 as Managing Director for the Southeast region. Mr. Christopher is also a General Partner of Patriot Capital IV, the most recent fund in the Patriot Capital Group’s Family of Private Equity Funds. Prior to joining Patriot Capital Group, Mr. Christopher was a co-founder and Partner of an Atlanta-based fund, Peachtree Equity Partners, which provided junior capital to lower middle market businesses in the Southeast. Peachtree was founded in 2002 and over a 14-year period, deployed over $200 million of capital into more than 30 companies across two funds. Mr. Christopher’s responsibilities included origination, execution, and Board positions at many of the Peachtree portfolio companies. Prior to Peachtree, Mr. Christopher was a Vice President at Wachovia Bank’s private equity group. Prior to Wachovia, Mr. Christopher was an associate at CIVC Partners, the Chicago-based buyout group of Bank of America. Prior to CIVC, Mr. Christopher was an investment banking analyst at Kidder, Peabody & Co. and a high yield research analyst at JP Morgan. Mr. Christopher received his MBA from the University of Chicago and a BBA from the University of Michigan.
Stacey R. WittelsbergerSenior Vice President
Stacey Wittelsberger joined Patriot Capital in June 2010. Most recently, Stacey worked for Banc of America Securities in the Securitization Finance (Asset Backed Commercial Paper Conduits) and RMBS (Residential Mortgage Backed Securities) groups from 2008 to 2010. Stacey is Co-President of Baltimore Deal Professionals (BDP) a 100+ member organization in Baltimore for young professionals working in the investment banking and private equity industries. Ms. Wittelsberger graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Finance and received her MBA from Loyola University Maryland.
Adam J. Kelly, CFAVice President
Mr. Kelly joined Patriot Capital in November 2012. Adam has held several underwriting roles with M&T Bank, most recently working with the Sponsor, Asset Based and Commercial Equipment Finance groups to provide cash flow modeling and risk assessment. Adam graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a B.S. in Business Administration, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Jonathon L. CopeVice President
Jonathon Cope joined Patriot Capital as an Associate in September 2014. Prior to joining Patriot, Jonathon was an Associate in the Restructuring Group at BNP Paribas in New York. Mr. Cope also has experience as an Analyst in the Corporate Finance division of Daimler AG. Mr. Cope graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Finance, and holds his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
Kyle K. GriffithAssociate Managing Director
Kyle Griffith joined Patriot Capital in April 2018. He has 7 years of experience in middle market commercial lending, including origination, underwriting, structuring, and portfolio management. Most recently, Mr. Griffith worked for CIBC (The PrivateBank) in the Sponsor Coverage Group providing lending and funding services to private equity firms. Mr. Griffith is Co-Chair of the Middle Market Open NextGen Committee and on the Chicago Fire Foundation Associates Board. Mr. Griffith graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Finance and received his M.B.A. from DePaul University.
Michael J. WrightAnalyst
Michael Wright joined Patriot Capital as an analyst in January 2015. Prior to joining Patriot, Michael was an analyst at Morgan Stanley where he worked with cash equity and derivatives trading. Michael graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a B.A. in Economics.
Aaron T. KatzmanAnalyst
Mr. Katzman joined Patriot Capital as an Analyst in November 2017. Prior to joining Patriot, Mr. Katzman was an Analyst in the consulting division of Source One Business Services LLC, where he provided buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory services to middle market companies. Mr. Katzman graduated from George Mason University (cum laude) with a B.S. in Finance.
Scott T. BassSpecial Advisor
Scott has over 20 years of M&A, financial advisory, investment banking, and operations management experience. He has advised clients on M&A transactions and raising public and private capital in the Aerospace, Chemical, Communications, Energy, Government Services, Information Technology, Life Sciences, Real Estate, Semiconductor and Technology sectors.
Prior to joining Patriot, Mr. Bass was a Managing Director for four years with National Capital Companies, an Investment Bank based in Bethesda Maryland. Mr. Bass spent 10 years as a Vice President of Corporate Finance at Ferris, Baker Watts, Inc. and its successor, the Royal Bank of Canada. Earlier he spent over five years as a Management Consultant with Gemini Consulting and Keystone Partners LLC with a focus on business process optimization. Mr. Bass began his career at Siemens, working in the Manufacturing Technology division, tasked with delivering process improvements to Siemens’ U.S. Divisions.
Mr. Bass earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and his Masters in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance from the Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College. He is a registered representative holding active Series 7, 63 and Series 79 licenses. He is a licensed private pilot with an instrument rating.
